Lively Film Journal

Editorial policy

Lively Film Journal aims to make film craft clear, specific and fair. We distinguish observation from interpretation, check factual statements before publication and make changes openly when a piece needs correction.

Accuracy and interpretation

We check names, titles, dates and other factual details against suitable source material before publication. Film analysis involves interpretation, so we describe the evidence in the scene and avoid presenting a personal reading as settled fact. We revisit claims when credible information or a reader’s correction shows they need attention.

Independence

Editorial decisions belong to the editors of Lively Film Journal. A collaboration or commercial relationship does not guarantee coverage, a favourable view or control over our conclusions. Where a relationship is relevant to a piece, we make it clear to readers.

Corrections

If you spot a factual error or a misleading passage, contact us with the article title and the detail in question. We review substantiated concerns and correct material when warranted, making significant changes clear in the article rather than silently leaving a known error in place.

Partner material and illustrations

Partner-supported content and paid placements are identified with a clear label so readers can distinguish them from independent editorial work. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; when that applies, the image is labelled accordingly. Illustrations do not stand in for evidence about a film.

Our point of view

Every scene is a set of choices

A frame can hide as much as it shows; a pause can do more than a speech. We look closely, describe what we can see and leave room for more than one reading.
