Write for us

Lively Film Journal welcomes considered pitches about how film scenes are made and experienced. Send proposals through the Contact page; an idea is welcome even if it needs shaping, but it should have a clear point and a reader in mind.

What we welcome

Pitch focused pieces on framing, sound, editing, screen design or performance. We are interested in clear explanations, careful comparisons and close readings that show how a specific film choice works. A pitch should offer an angle that is distinct from familiar plot summaries and general reviews.

What makes a strong pitch

Tell us the central question, the scene or craft element you would examine, and what a reader would take away. Keep claims grounded in material readers can observe or check. If the idea depends on a source, access or a particular film example, mention that in the proposal.

How to send it

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial enquiry option. Include a working title, a short outline and any relevant context. Please send a proposal rather than a completed article unless we have agreed otherwise; we cannot promise publication or a particular response time.

Our point of view

Every scene is a set of choices

A frame can hide as much as it shows; a pause can do more than a speech. We look closely, describe what we can see and leave room for more than one reading.
